TallyHi

Billable time, buttoned up.

Count every hour. Send the invoice. Get paid. TallyHi is a Mac app for expert consultants who bill law firms by the hour.

TallyHi 1.0 for Mac. Your case files stay on your Mac.

1 minute 49 seconds. Every name and matter in the video is invented.

From first call to paid invoice

Every engagement follows the same path. TallyHi keeps it in one place, so nothing gets lost between the case file and the invoice.

  1. 1

    Open a case

Add the matter, the attorney, and your hourly rate. The case folder on your Mac is created for you.

  2. 2

    Log the work

Record review, calls, report drafting, testimony. Each entry is timed and dated as you go.

  3. 3

    Attach the proof

Drop in files and pull the Gmail threads that show the work happened. They stay pinned to the case.

  4. 4

    Build the invoice

One click turns the log into a numbered, print-ready PDF with your rate and totals already worked out.

  5. 5

    Send it and track payment

Email the PDF to the attorney from inside the app, then mark it paid when the check clears.

Built for the way expert work actually gets billed

Not a general-purpose time tracker with a legal skin. Every feature exists because a consultant needed it to get an invoice out the door.

  • Case pipeline

Move each matter from intake to invoice paid. The status list matches how engagements really progress, not a generic kanban board.

  • Billable event log

Every call, review session, and deposition is an entry with a date, a duration, and a description the attorney will understand.

  • Invoice PDF

A clean, numbered invoice generated from the log, with your payment details on it. Print it, save it, or send it straight away.

  • Gmail, attached to the case

Pull the email threads that belong to a matter, and send invoices from your own address without leaving the app.

  • Google Calendar

Due dates and hearing dates from your cases appear on your calendar, so the phone reminds you before the attorney does.

  • Case folders on your Mac

Records, reports, and exhibits live in ordinary folders you can open in Finder. TallyHi keeps them tied to the right case.

  • Bring your spreadsheet

Already tracking hours in Excel? Import the workbook and carry on from where you left off.

  • Outstanding at a glance

See what has been invoiced, what has been paid, and what is still waiting on the firm, across every case.

  • Deposits and advance fees

Record a deposit up front and let each invoice draw it down. The attorney sees what was applied and what is still due.

  • Exports to your accountant

Send invoices to QuickBooks Online or Xero as their own import file, so your books match your billing without retyping.

For the independent expert

TallyHi began with legal nurse consultants on criminal defense cases. It fits anyone whose opinion is hired by the hour and whose invoice has to hold up to a law firm's scrutiny.

  • Legal nurse consultantsMedical record review, chronologies, standard-of-care opinions
  • Forensic accountantsTracing, damages, and valuation work
  • EngineersFailure analysis, accident reconstruction, product cases
  • PsychologistsEvaluations, competency, and expert reports
  • Digital forensics examinersDevice imaging, data recovery, chain of custody
  • InvestigatorsInterviews, surveillance, and field work billed by the hour
  • Interpreters and translatorsDepositions, hearings, and document translation
  • Any expert who bills a law firmIf you log hours and send invoices to attorneys, it will fit.

You are an independent expert, not an advocate. TallyHi is built around that: it records the work you did and what it costs, and leaves the rest to you.

Your case files stay on your Mac

Case files, client names, hours, and invoices are stored in ordinary local files on your computer. There is no cloud copy of your case data, and nothing about your cases is sent anywhere unless you send it.

  • No cloud copy of your work

Your records are as private as any other file on your Mac, and you back them up however you already do. TallyHi keeps no copy of them, so there is no company database to breach, subpoena, or shut down.

  • Google only when you ask

Gmail and Calendar are reached through your own Google sign-in, only for the actions you take. TallyHi never reads your inbox in the background.

  • AI assistance, off by default

Turn it on and click an email, and TallyHi sends that one email’s text through tallyhi.com to Anthropic to draft a time entry you then edit. Nothing else goes, nothing runs in the background, and it stays off until you ask for it.

  • Nothing sold, nothing tracked

No analytics, no ad networks, no third parties buying anything. So licensing works, we keep one small subscription record — your app version, the country the check came from, and when we last saw you. Never anything about your cases.

Think of TallyHi as a tireless billing clerk who works at your desk, not ours: it never forgets an hour, keeps your case files in your own filing cabinet, and never phones anyone about your cases. Read the full privacy policy.
